About me

An Odyssey of Passion, Challenges, and Purpose

I’m a Swiss singer-songwriter, award-winning dancer, van lifer, world traveler, designer, author, and entrepreneur with a story as diverse as my work. Living in India as a child set my nomadic path. As of today, I count 94 moves, lived in 38 cities across 10 countries, and traveled to over 220 cities in 33 countries.

Starting dance at age 4, I dedicated 25 years as a top ballroom dancer. At the peak of my career, I made the boldest move of my life. I left behind everything, the stage, TV, and competitions, to follow my greatest passion: music. I started from scratch in mid-life, utilizing the rigorous discipline drilled into me as a DanceSport athlete to master singing, songwriting, piano, Flamenco guitar, and to build my online empire.

Today, I live my dream on the road in my India-inspired van, Komali Chai, where I write, record, and perform my rhythm-driven World Fusion music, practice Ayurveda, and run FAVIE Group—a brand ecosystem network that includes The FAVIE Shop, where I curate India-inspired products, FAVIE Academy, where I mentor those seeking growth, FAVIE Agency, the driving force behind my empire, while offering services to succeed in a digital world, and FAVIE Charity, supporting children in India and individuals worldwide through education.

Dance

With a career spanning 30 years, my journey in Latin American DanceSport has been marked by numerous international achievements and accolades. As a professional ballroom dancer specializing in Latin American dances, I have represented Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Recognized as an “Extraordinary Talent” by the U.S., I received six prestigious Swiss Olympic Awards for “International High-Ranked Front Achievements.” I am a multiple-time Swiss Latin American DanceSport Champion, and my competitive achievements include finalist placements in world-ranking competitions such as the French Open, Swiss Open, German Open (World Super Series), Belgium Open, Holland Masters, and the Romanian Open. I also placed 7th in the Blackpool British Open in Professional Latin RS.

My dance journey has led to performances on global stages, including an appearance on FOX’s American Idol alongside Gloria Estefan, Sheila E., So You Think You Can Dance finalists, and American Idol finalists at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, L.A. I had the honor of collaborating with Dancing with the Stars USA judge Carrie Ann Inaba and dancer Artem Chigvintsev on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars instructional video series. In the U.S., I was also featured in the Colorado Star Ball show act in Denver and have shared my passion for dance across Europe, the USA, and Asia.

In addition to performing, I have led workshops and performances at schools and universities across Singapore to promote DanceSport, and have instructed countless students in Latin dance, hip hop, street dance, reggae dance hall, tango argentino, and other styles. My Flamenco training was refined through studies at esteemed institutions like the Escuela de Baile de Flamenco in Madrid, home of Joaquin Cortés, with Cristóbal Reyes (uncle of Joaquin Cortés), as well as under the mentorship of Javier Martos in Granada, Spain.

Furthermore, I founded and ran the Fabienne Bolshov© Dance Studio in Zurich, Switzerland, located in the prestigious Holmes Place. For several years, I taught numerous students in courses such as salsa, tango argentino, DanceSport, dance fitness, and walking in heels.

Music

My music journey is a testament to reinvention and self-mastery. At the peak of my dance career, I made the boldest move of my life. I left everything behind—competing, performing, TV shows—to follow my biggest passion: music. Starting from scratch in mid-life, I taught myself singing, songwriting, piano, and Flamenco guitar, drawing on the rigorous discipline instilled in me during my 25 years as a DanceSport athlete.

I have since crafted over 60 songs of rhythm-driven World Fusion music. My music blends traditional elements like Flamenco, Tango, Balkan, Middle Eastern, and Chanson music with contemporary sounds, as well as Flamenco, Middle Eastern, and Indian percussion, reflecting my cultural inspirations and nomadic spirit.

My van, Komali Chai, serves as my music studio and creative space, where I write, record, and rehearse my songs. It’s within this space that I bring my compositions to life, inspired by my travels, my nomadic journey, and my personal experiences.

I am currently preparing for my upcoming first Music Tour, a heartfelt show that blends 20 modernized folk classics with some of my original songs. Beginning in Europe, I plan to extend the tour to the U.S., Canada, and potentially India, with performances in cities like Portland, Boston, Austin, Salt Lake City, Montreal, Toronto, Zurich, Jerez, Madrid, Manresa, Barcelona, Arles, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Hamburg, Prague, Budapest, and Lorient. Each performance will celebrate the universal language of music, uniting people through the beauty of cultural fusion and rhythm.

As a visionary, you now have the opportunity to own a piece of this artistic journey and be part of creating music that bridges tradition and innovation while inspiring and connecting audiences globally. Whether through traditional opportunities like investing in a song, music video, or album, or exploring forward-thinking ventures such as exclusive collectibles and cutting-edge technologies like NFTs, your investment positions you at the forefront of a cultural movement. Visit the Invest page to discover how you can shape a lasting legacy in the world of music.

Acting

While living in L.A., USA, I immersed myself in the world of entertainment, pursuing a diverse range of artistic disciplines. Alongside my vocal training and work as a dancer in the entertainment industry, I underwent professional commercial acting education and American English accent training to refine my on-camera presence, storytelling skills, and vocal delivery.

Modeling

During my time in Los Angeles, I had the privilege of working with world-renowned photographer Lionel Deluy, known for his work with America’s Next Top Model, Vogue, Elle, and GQ. I was also represented by a body parts modeling agency for my feet, recognized for my high arch (dancer’s feet), and was offered the opportunity to walk in Las Vegas.

In addition to these roles, I received modeling requests from fashion brands such as Rock & Republic, American Apparel, and Ed Hardy. I also modeled for hair salon campaigns and collaborated with talented creatives like Marcos Alvares. My portfolio includes photo shoots at stunning locations such as Marina del Rey, Lancaster, and other iconic settings across L.A. and Las Vegas.

Beyond the U.S., my modeling journey has taken me to Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, and other locations around the world, where I explored diverse creative opportunities that enriched my versatility as a model.

Entrepreneurship

Inspired by my father—a mathematician, IT scientist, and born entrepreneur with a relentless drive for innovation—I inherited his entrepreneurial and tech spirit. While working at one of my father’s IT schools in Switzerland, I contributed to building websites, developing marketing concepts, and co-creating a cyber school, experiences that sparked my passion for technology and business. At 16, I earned my first IT diploma and built my first website, laying the foundation for my entrepreneurial journey.

At 18, I co-founded my first company offering web and marketing services. While living in London, I financed my dance career by freelancing in graphic design and web development. Later, I launched my first fashion label, FL Couture, designing and creating custom dance competition dresses, evening wear, and dance practice wear.

Throughout my dance career, I managed all marketing and websites for my performance gigs and teaching. After returning from Los Angeles, I founded a GmbH and opened the FABIENNE BOLSHOV© Dance Studio in Zurich at the prestigious Holmes Place, where I taught various dance styles. After closing the studio to embrace a location-independent lifestyle, I became a digital nomad, founding my company, now FAVIE Group, which reflects my passions and expertise.

Today, FAVIE Group is a thriving modular ecosystem network of e-commerce, media, education, consulting, and philanthropy, with over 80 interconnected websites, a portfolio of 120+ domains, and diversified revenue streams including AdSense, affiliate marketing, and product sales. I’ve created 200+ India-inspired products, 50+ digital tools, and 20+ online courses, with plans to expand. My systems are AI-resilient, balancing automation with human creativity, and are designed for seamless scalability across platforms.

FAVIE Group combines artistry, branding, and entrepreneurship, while offering tailored resources and training for creators. With projects like FAVIE Charity, which supports skill-building for children in India, my work emphasizes global impact, meaningful connections, and empowering others to thrive creatively.

Corporate

My corporate career began at the age of 16 when I started working at my father’s IT school during my business management education. I pursued an apprenticeship, earned my IT diploma, and gained hands-on experience managing the company office and school secretariat, building websites, co-developing a cyber school, and contributing to IT and mathematics teaching materials, courses, and advertisements.

I held roles such as IT Specialist and Project Manager at the University of Zurich, where I managed projects, web design, content management, SEO, social media, digital marketing, video editing, and the evaluation and maintenance of e-learning systems. Additionally, I oversaw HR management, third-party funding management, IT support, and accounting at the university.

As a Digital Media & Communication Manager at EKZ Zurich, I led efforts in branding, digital strategy, media planning, content creation, and marketing strategy. In 2019, I was honored with the EKZ Innovation Award for seven innovative ideas, including solutions in business strategy, community building, remote work, and employee development.

I have also held leadership and consultancy roles in project management, web development, digital marketing, branding, graphic design, SEO, and social media management across various industries. My experience includes working as a Law Assistant at firms in Zurich, Switzerland, and Beverly Hills, USA, as well as managing operations in architecture offices, school secretariats, and other sectors.

Design

As a born aesthete, design has always been a cornerstone of my creative journey. My passion for fashion design began at 18 when my parents gifted me a sewing machine for my birthday. With dance competition dresses being prohibitively expensive, I started sewing my own, which quickly gained recognition. Fellow dancers began asking to purchase my dresses second-hand or have me create custom pieces for them. Soon after, I launched my first label, FL Couture, where I designed and sewed custom competition dresses, dance practice wear, and evening wear, in addition to crafting my own performance costumes.

Over the next 25 years, my design work expanded far beyond fashion. I freelanced extensively in graphic design, creating everything from logos and flyers to CVs, social media graphics, book and CD covers, branding concepts, and more. I also completed dozens of web designs and UI/UX projects, both for my own ventures and for clients, alongside creating hundreds of digital and product designs. My body of work is vast, encompassing everything from digital assets to functional and artistic creations.

Today, under FAVIE Group, executed by my creative powerhouse, FAVIE Agency, I have designed over 200 India-inspired products spanning fashion, home decor, accessories, and lifestyle essentials, with many more to come. These designs are deeply influenced by my nomadic journey, cultural inspirations, and my passion for beauty, Indian patterns, and adventure. Each piece reflects a commitment to timeless aesthetics, functionality, and storytelling, embodying a rich fusion of tradition and modernity.

Health

As a professional athlete and dancer for half of my life, health, fitness, and nutrition have always been integral to my lifestyle. At a pivotal turning point—closing my dance studio and marriage while working in a corporate job—I felt the need to expand my horizons and deepen my knowledge. Torn between studying health sciences and information technology, I ultimately chose health, a subject deeply rooted in my life.

Living with a few health challenges, including persistent insomnia, PTSD, bulimia, IBS, and weight gain, I was drawn to explore the science of wellness. Throughout my dance career, I experimented with various nutritional approaches, including the cabbage soup diet for detoxing and weight management, as well as Raw Till 4, the raw food diet, fruitarian diet, high glycemic index diet, water fasting, intermittent fasting, and OMAD. While many of these worked well for me—particularly intermittent fasting and Raw Till 4—the fruitarian diet proved the most challenging to sustain.

During this time, I transitioned to a vegan diet, inspired by my studies, the desire to improve my health, and a growing awareness of the ethical, environmental, and sustainability benefits of this lifestyle. Simultaneously, my lifelong connection to India and its holistic traditions grew stronger. Influenced by Indian nutrition, yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, I began incorporating these principles into my life. A few years later, I further deepened my understanding by studying Ayurveda under teachers in India, embracing its timeless wisdom on living in harmony with nature. Ayurveda not only helped me improve my sleep but also taught me the value of mindful self-compassion and how to practice meditation, helping me balance the self-critical nature ingrained in me from my years as a DanceSport athlete.

Interestingly, despite being focused on health and nutrition, I’ve always disliked cooking. However, Ayurveda paired with intermittent fasting helped me find joy in preparing simple, nourishing meals, especially ones that require minimal effort. In my van, most meals are made in my rice cooker, which has become an essential part of my cooking routine. Warm Ayurvedic rice cooker meals paired with raw, plant-based foods work best for me, offering both balance and simplicity. I even take a mini rice cooker with me on my travels, and in my Paris apartment, my rice cooker remains a staple for quick, healthy meals that align with my lifestyle.

My laptop lifestyle as a digital nomad and years spent building my business took a toll on my health. Since I stopped dancing, I’ve gained 20kg, despite maintaining a healthy diet. The lack of movement has been the biggest challenge over the past decade. Sitting at a computer or writing music became my life, leading to health issues that doctors have advised can be resolved by losing 15kg to regain optimal health. This is now my big goal, and while the approach remains open, I plan to include running and jumping rope, as they are easy to execute in van life. I also began practicing Krav Maga in Madrid, a discipline I hope to pursue further.

Today, my passion for health and wellness continues to guide me, blending modern science with ancient practices to promote a balanced, mindful, and sustainable lifestyle.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to My Most Asked Questions

What inspired you to start van life?

I was searching for a place to call home but didn’t want to be tied to one spot. As a born wanderer and lifelong traveler, I was drawn to a life of movement, away from the confines of four walls and societal norms.

After relocating 92 times across 25 cities and 9 countries, I craved a space that offered me privacy, freedom, and the flexibility to embrace my creativity without interference. Van life lets me wake up surrounded by nature, follow my own schedule, and live with a deep sense of independence.

For a deeper look into my journey and van life insights, check out my blog post and YouTube video.

How do you make money while traveling?

My income comes from a variety of online ventures that I’ve carefully built over the years. To preserve my creative freedom, I’ve intentionally chosen not to focus on monetizing my music. Instead, I rely on multiple income streams through FAVIE Group, my modular brand ecosystem that merges e-commerce, education, content, and media.

Each branch of this ecosystem—whether it’s my academy, shop, or agency—is designed to operate independently while also supporting the whole. This setup lets me stay financially independent while exploring my passions on the road.

For a closer look, you can check out my blog post and YouTube video on How I Make Money While Traveling. If you need personalized guidance on how to build a remote income, feel free to reach out to me here.

What led you to shift from dance to music?

Despite music was my first love, it was dance that took me through a vibrant 25-year career. But as time went on, I realized I’d rather have been a singer than a dancer. Also, the politics, heavy makeup, and heavy practice schedules wore me down, and I increasingly found myself drawn to creating fashion designs, websites, and business concepts than going to practice.

My final competition at the UK Championships was both my best performance and the day I burned out. With my partner battling a fever, we had to withdraw—it was too dangerous for him to compete—and I felt done, exhausted by the intense regimen and disgusted by the layers of self-tan and makeup under the sweat.

After retiring from DanceSport, I briefly explored fashion design but soon committed to my biggest dream: music. Starting from scratch, I left all behind and moved to New York, where my musical journey truly began.

How do you organize your life & business?

Staying organized took me years to master, but I’ve finally developed a system that works perfectly for me. It’s a hybrid approach that combines digital and physical tools. My self-designed A5 planner covers my calendar, tasks, goals, projects, and finances, providing a clear visual overview. For quick capture, I rely on Apple Notes, a brain dump, and a physical notebook, while ClickUp serves as my main database for content, finances, and essential information. I also use a larger A4 notebook to brainstorm projects. This blend of digital and physical tools keeps me adaptable and fully in control of my life, business, and music journey. Check out my video and blog post for an in-depth look at my organization method, and explore my must-haves to see the tools I use daily.

What’s a typical day like in your van?

My daily routines are grounded in Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of wellness. I start with an Ayurvedic morning ritual, which includes beauty care, yoga, a workout, and meditation. Throughout the day, I follow activities that align with my Ayurvedic dosha (mind-body constitution), whether it’s work, music, or movement practices. Depending on the day, I may spend more hours working on my business or immersed in music—writing songs, recording, or preparing for shows. In the evenings, I wind down with an Ayurvedic-inspired routine to keep my mind and body balanced and at peace.

You can check out my Ayurveda morning routine, evening routine, Ayurvedic resets, and more of my daily life on my YouTube channel.

What are the Biggest Challenges of Van Life & Nomad Living?

Traveling nomadically in a van differs from a more traditional nomadic lifestyle, each with its own unique challenges. Van life offers an incredible sense of freedom but also demands constant decision-making—from finding safe parking spots to securing reliable WiFi for work. Balancing privacy and community isn’t always easy, and living in a small space often requires embracing a minimalist mindset that values simplicity. As a solo female van lifer, there are additional considerations around personal safety and managing hygiene routines effectively in a mobile setup.

As a nomad in general, especially as a solo female traveler, I’ve encountered situations involving manipulation, harassment, and even robbery, which demand constant vigilance. Constant travel can create a sense of rootlessness, and while I often spend one month to a year in places I enjoy, I inevitably form connections that I eventually have to leave behind. Starting fresh in each new location—finding essential services, making social connections, and adapting to a new environment—can be both rewarding and exhausting. Missing family gatherings and being away from loved ones is also a significant sacrifice.

I live in between both worlds, as a traveling van lifer and a global nomad, and need the freedom to go wherever my heart leads. Over time, I’ve created a lifestyle that works for me, balancing connection, security, and independence.

For more insights, you can explore my blog post and video on the highs and lows of a nomadic van life.

How do you keep in touch with loved ones while traveling?

Through daily video calls and WhatsApp, and I regularly share updates on my YouTube Vlog channel. While my friends are scattered worldwide, technology allows us to stay close despite the distance.

I genuinely enjoy my own company and the solitude van life offers—it’s a dream come true, giving me space to create and record music. Currently, I’m working on new songs, which makes this alone time essential.

Though I am a bit of a loner, I find camaraderie with other van lifers who share similar perspectives and values. I’ve also set up my life to balance nomadic freedom with a sense of community. When I feel the need for familiar faces, I spend more time in places where I know I have a supportive network. So far, this lifestyle has given me independence without loneliness.

For more insights, check out my blog post and video on staying connected on the road.

What are your Must-Haves for Van Life?

It depends on how much comfort and convenience you seek. For me, I can’t live without a shower and a toilet, a designated work space, at least a kitchen counter with a sink and space to prepare food and a portable stove for cooking (also outside), an outdoor table for meal prep, cooking, work, etc., a fridge with freezer, a portable power station and solar panels for electronics, insulated black-out window covers for heat, cold, light, and privacy, a compact shovel for outdoor tasks, a carbon monoxide detector, locks, alarms, and defensive items for safety, magnetic phone holders, a hotspot device for connectivity, bluetooth speakers for good sound, a physical road map for navigation in emergencies when there’s no WiFi connection, a multipurpose tool for repairs and versatility, and a broom for cleaning.

What Are Your Travel Essentials?

I keep my travel essentials simple yet meaningful, ensuring I have what I need to feel grounded and inspired while traveling.

My A5 planner is a must—it keeps me organized and on track with all my projects. I also travel with my music recording gear, allowing me to capture inspiration whenever it strikes, and my yoga mat for daily wellness practices. Ayurvedic products are a big part of my routine, helping me stay balanced, and I carry a curated collection of clothes and accessories that bring comfort and practicality to my travels.

If you’re curious about my essentials, you can explore my curated must-haves here. I’ve also shared more details in my blog post and YouTube video on travel essentials—check them out to get an inside look at what I carry with me!

How do you practice hygiene on the road?

Maintaining hygiene on the road has always been a priority for me. I’m passionate about wellness, spa routines, and beauty care, and I wanted to carry those habits with me when I transitioned to van life. That’s why I made sure to include a shower and toilet in my van, which allows me to stick to my routines and keep a sense of comfort.

I follow Ayurvedic routines daily, including a specific morning and evening ritual, which keeps me grounded and refreshed. I also do periodic Ayurvedic resets.

For laundry, I like to keep my fabrics—bedding, curtains, and clothes—fresh and smelling nice. I wash my laundry every 10 days, either at a laundromat, campsite, or when visiting friends or family. This balance of routines and adaptable practices has helped me maintain the hygiene standards I love while embracing the freedom of life on the road.

What’s your top advice for earning money remotely?

Start by designing your life. Begin with clarity—start from the end goal. Define your ideal life: how you envision your weeks and days, how you want to feel, and what you want to avoid. This clarity is crucial; many people struggle with knowing what they truly want, so once you gain that, you’re already well ahead.

With this vision in mind, consider what’s necessary to live the way you desire. Determine the type of business or work that aligns with your lifestyle and ensure there’s a genuine demand for it. Assess if you already possess the required skills or need to acquire them. While some suggest turning your passion into income, I believe it’s not always the best approach. Personally, I didn’t want my passion for music to become my income source, as it would have limited my creative freedom. Instead, I focused on interests I “liked” but didn’t “love,” which gave me both satisfaction and financial stability.

Above all, take action. Stop procrastinating and commit to building the life you desire, as it requires effort, determination, and sacrifice.

For more in-depth advice, be sure to check out my blog post and YouTube video on this topic. And if you need personalized guidance, feel free to reach out to me here.

My soul, restless and searching, felt drawn to new horizons, new colors, and stories waiting to be told.
